- After Elon posted, "Maybe there should be a solar Gigafactory in America...," Guillaume Verdon (@BasedBeffJezos proposed to that Tesla integrate solar energy, batteries, and GPU clusters for self-sustaining data centers. "Maybe X could offer a cloud platform using data center building IP from X AI + energy from Tesla." Of which Elon replied with a 'wink' emoji.
I would say yes to a Giga Solar Factory. I think Americans want solar, but esthetics means a lot for home values. If Tesla could drive down the cost of Tesla Solar Roof, new home builds would jump on it. It needs to be an affordable option, not a luxury item. Do it!
- Atmos Renewables, in partnership with Nomad Energy, has reached financial close on a AUD $220 million ($145 million), 100 MW / 400 MWh standalone Megapack site near Merredin, Western Australia. Construction is set to begin soon on a four-hectare site 8 km southwest of the town, adjacent to the 100 MW Merredin Solar Farm. GenusPlus Group will lead construction, with Western Power handling high-voltage connections. Completion is expected in early 2027.
- The Green Transportation Summit and Expo 2025 announced Tesla will join the Expo plus the Ride and Drive program. Looking at the promotion, it appears the Tesla Semi will be on hand! The event will take place at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center in Tacoma, Washington, from the 26th - 28th of August.
Per Tesla Energy's APAC Regional Director, Josef Tadich (@JosefTadich), "Tesla looks forward to building this project with you with our Megapack fully integrated energy storage system. This adds another much-needed battery energy storage system to the WEM, charging from the world-beating solar resource, and providing fast and flexible generation to support the close to 2GW ramp needed to meet the early evening peak. Another great project in WA, and we're excited to be part of it!"
- Lizzy Roberts, Sr. Public Policy and Business Development Manager for Tesla UK & Ireland, shouted out Tesla's Megapack Installer Day at Giga Berlin. The event featured meetings with current and prospective customers developing major grid stability projects, collaboration with global colleagues including engineers, fire safety experts, and policy leads. They showcased Tesla’s energy storage and grid services advancements through their Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
■ SPACEX:
- Yesterday evening, launch 85 of Falcon 9 MTG-S1 took place from Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A0) at Kennedy Space Center, Florida. This was the ninth flight for first stage booster B1085. It previously launched Crew-9, RRT-1, Firefly Blue Ghost Mission 1, Fram2, SXM-10, and three Starlink missions. The booster landed on drone ship Just Read the Instructions in the Atlantic Ocean. MTG-S1 was successfully deployed.
MTG-S1 (Meteosat Third Generation - Sounder 1) is a geostationary satellite carrying a hyperspectral Infrared Sounder (IRS) and Copernicus Sentinel-4 UVN spectrometer. The IRS scans Europe every 30 minutes and the Earth disc every 60 minutes, mapping temperature, humidity, and trace gases (e.g., ozone, CO, CO2, methane) with 4 km resolution. Sentinel-4 monitors air pollutants hourly. MTG-S1 enhances weather forecasting, nowcasting, air quality monitoring, and climate research. In geostationary orbit at 36,000 km, it complements MTG-I satellites, delivering 50 times more data than prior Meteosat generations. Thales Alenia Space, OHB Systems, and Airbus Defence and Space are key contractors.
- In the early morning hours, launch 86 of Falcon 9 Starlink 10-25 took place from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida. This was the 29th flight for first stage booster B1067 and the 500th Falcon launch! It previously launched CRS-22, Crew-3, Turksat 5B, Crew-4, CRS-25, Eutelsat HOTBIRD 13G, O3B mPOWER-A, PSN SATRIA, Telkomsat Merah Putih 2, Galileo L13, Koreasat-6A, and now 18 Starlink missions. The booster landed on drone ship A Shortfall of Gravitas in the Atlantic Ocean. 27 Starlinks were deployed.
- Yesterday at Starbase, testing of Pad 1 took place well into the night. Not sure if this was routine checks of operations, new equipment, or if they are trying to get the place ready to test Ships 37 and 38. Today crews were working on and modifying the Ship Transport Stand, so I'm leaning towards a conversion for static fires. Pic by @StarshipGazer.
- At Pad 2, it looked like three more hold-down clamps were installed on the OLM. That would leave only one left.
- A new Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) over Starbase was put into effect yesterday until the 1st of January. It now covers the entire city and Massey’s test site with a 5,000 ft altitude limit, up from 2,000 ft. This expansion eliminates gaps some have used for drone photography. H/T Felix Space Time (@Space_Time3).
- SpaceX is planning to build a Bastrop Floodplain Park currently being called Project Echo. Plans show this as a private recreation complex for employees next to the Starlink Factory in Bastrop, Texas, on the Colorado River. The complex will feature basketball and pickleball courts, picnic areas, and possibly a floating kayak deck on several acres. Bastrop County issued a development permit, but requires elevation certificates at three construction stages.

Effective January 2026, Starlink users in Legal Amazon states must register with CPF using a photo ID and proof of address for new connection kits. Starlink will share user data (IP, port, coordinates) with MPF or Federal Police, block CPFs linked to illegal networks, transfer seized terminals to authorities, provide geolocation for crime-related cells per court order, and add a Terms of Service clause banning criminal use, with suspension for violations. Non-compliance fines reach R$10,000 (USD 1,800) per unfulfilled request.
- Starlink provided coverage during a regional firefighting skills test for the Nederweert Fire Brigade of Limburg, Netherlands. The event involved nine teams from North Brabant, Gelderland, Limburg, and Utrecht. It was held in area with no internet, so Martijn van Zeeland, of Mister IT, used Starlink to ensure the jury had access to live data.
- Salt Mobile CEO Massimiliano (Max) Nunziata and CTO Eric Wolff sending the very first Starlink Direct-to-Cell text messages in Europe. Per Salt, "This non-commercial trial demonstrates the technical feasibility of delivering mobile connectivity to even the most remote regions — all that's needed is a 4G smartphone and a view of the sky."
- Paratus of Namibia launched Paratus EduLINK, a connectivity program utilizing Starlink to deliver fast, reliable internet to schools in underserved and remote regions. The campaign, themed “Empowering Education, Anywhere,” is to ensure no school or student is left behind. Barney Harmse, executive chairman of Paratus Group, emphasized that Paratus EduLINK focuses on creating equal access to education for thousands of learners, regardless of their location’s remoteness.
■ X:
- Today, X announced they won a legal challenge against the Australian eSafety Commissioner's $800,000 AUD fine, overturning a 2024 order to remove a post criticizing a WHO transgender appointee. This victory defied limited Australian expression laws and rejected global content removal.
- In a recent episode of WeHunt Talks, Cris Nulli, Market Lead of X Italy, was interviewed by Eugenio Somaini, Senior Director and Board Member of WeHunt, to discuss the implications of AI, work, and information in the digital age. Nulli emphasized the critical role of social networks as the primary source of information, highlighting the challenge of distinguishing truth from falsehood and the importance of reliable sources. The discussion, coinciding with Social Media Day, prompted reflection on whether individuals are truly connected and informed or merely overwhelmed by the constant flow of content.
■ xAI:
- I'm adding to the update because it is possible that this cluster is for Colossus 2 in Southaven. Vipul Ved Prakash, Co-founder & CEO Together AI, posted this pic of their first GB200 cluster CDUs getting filled with coolant for deployment. He stated the following, "Each rack here is 1.4 exaflops of inference performance! Will share benchmarks and official announcement from Memphis soon. Thank you Dell Technologies and 5C!" Note that he said Memphis.
